AFL NSW/ACT is committed to improving the community’s football facilities to deliver the best possible experience for everyone involved in footy.
A team at AFL NSW/ACT is dedicated to reviewing all community venues across the state and territory (more than 250) and assessing their suitability for upgrades or rebuilds.
AFL NSW/ACT can work with clubs and governments on new or existing facilities from planning to delivery, providing advice and assistance with design, funding and build.
Projects starting in November
There are seven significant projects commencing in November worth around $12 million.
Thank you to local clubs, governments, and design, build and funding partners who are working on these projects alongside AFL NSW/ACT.
Trumper Park project upgrade, Edgecliff
East Sydney Bulldogs and UTS Bats – and their opponents – will benefit from upgraded changeroom facilities, which will provide vast improvements for women and girls.
The $375,000 project is due to be completed ahead of the 2025 season, in March 2025.
Thank you to the NSW Government for providing a significant amount of the funding for this project. The AFL will contribute almost $40,000.
Frank Gray Oval and Mike Pawley Oval, Curl Curl
Frank Gray Oval and Mike Pawley Oval are next to one another at John Fisher Park in Curl Curl. The $1 million project will upgrade the existing amenities to be more suitable for women and girls, and more functional, benefiting the Manly Bombers junior club and the Manly-Warringah Wolves senior club.
The project is jointly funded by the NSW Government and the Northern Beaches Council, which are contributing equally.
It will be completed in May 2025.
Rose Point Oval, Singleton
The Singleton Roosters is receiving an expanded clubhouse and change room, which includes adding a women and girls specific change room, at Rose Point Oval.
The $2.25 million project was jointly funded by the NSW Government and AFL, with $2 million from the NSW Government and the remaining $250,000 from the AFL.
The generous funding from the NSW Government was in response to the Greta bus tragedy in June 2023, which significantly affected the club.
The project will be completed mid-2025.
Macquarie University field upgrade, Macquarie Park
One of the state’s most exciting projects gets underway in November, with Macquarie University Sporting Field adding significant capability. The facility will receive upgrades to surface and change rooms, and will add matchday amenities including coaches’ boxes.
The $7.58 million development is geared towards the venue being capable of hosting AFLW matches, joining Henson Park, Blacktown International Sportspark and North Sydney Oval as the only venues in Sydney which can make such a claim.
Funding is split between the AFL ($1.58m), Redlands School ($1m) and the NSW Government ($5m). The Macquarie University Warriors will call this ground home and Redlands School will also play footy there.
Jubilee Oval, Glebe
The Glebe Greyhounds will have vastly updated lighting, thanks to the City of Sydney, which will unveil 100 lux lighting at Jubilee Oval in December 2024.
This lighting improvement allows for night matches.
Pat Jordan Oval, Newcastle
Newcastle City Juniors will have 100 lux lighting at Pat Jordan Oval from February 2025, allowing them to play night matches and improved training facilities for the senior club.
The AFL committed $75,000 and the NSW Government provided $239,000 to this $314,000 upgrade.
Gwawley Oval, Taren Point
The AFL has committed $100,000 to a 100-lux lighting upgrade at Gwawley Oval, Taren Point. The Cronulla Sharks juniors and Southern Dingoes masters will be able to play night matches from March 2025.
The total project value is almost $650,000 with funding partners including the NSW Government and the Sutherland Shire Council.
