Firstly, what is it?
As the safe, fun-first and contact free introduction to AFL, NAB AFL Auskick is the best place to start your child's sporting development.
With two one-hour sessions a week, Auskick sessions are focused on developing team-based mindset and the learning and development of physical literacy, rather than sport-specific skills. Games are contact free and designed to cater to every level of skill.
This isn't AFL for kids, Auskick sessions are made up of games and skills, both with and without the ball, that are focused on helping kids get active and form lasting friendships.
Kids can take up Auskick from the year they turn 5 and continue all the way up until 12 (depending on their centers) and don't need any previous footy know-how to play.
Is Auskick right for my kid?
Not sure if Auskick will be the right fit? The first Auskick session is free, giving your child the opportunity to trial Auskick before registering and completing payment. Find your nearest center and enquire about a trial here.
What do I need to bring?
You also don't need to bring any special gear a or equipment! All NAB AFL Auskickers have a special pack included in their registration, containing a new ball, t-shirt, hat and other goodies but kids are welcome to wear anything they're comfortable in. Auskick is about getting kids comfortable in a team environment, so it's best to have them in whatever they wear when they're at their best!
The checklist?
Activewear or clothes you don't mind your child running around in
Enclosed shoes (no need for footy boots)
Water bottle
That's all they need!
What do I need to do?
A parent or guardian will need to be present throughout the session and there are plenty of ways to get more involved with your local center! You can find out more about volunteering at your center here.
Sessions are also weather dependent and vary from center to center. Information will be shared ahead of time if practically possible.
