FAQs
Fun – Provide an engaging AFL experience for participants
Exposure - Expose the AFL Nines format to Youth aged players
Variety - An opportunity for players to play against different teams
Recruitment - Provide Clubs with another avenue to attract new participants to their Club, as well as sharing in some great prizes!
The preference is for Clubs to enter a team in all 4 divisions which forms a big part of the overall Club Challenge. However, if there are spots available then there may be an opportunity for Clubs to enter teams in just some of the divisions.
No! As long as players register for this Nines competition in Play HQ, they are eligible to participate. If any of your current players have a brother/sister/friend who might be interested in giving AFL a try this could be a great opportunity. Your Club might also want to partner with another Club to be able to field enough players. As long as you aren’t ‘recruiting’ players from another Club that plans to enter a team.
With 9 players required on the field, squad sizes are required to be between 10-15 registered players.
Games will be played between 9am-5pm. Teams will be split into 2 pools of 4 and play against all other teams in their pool. There will then be a crossover final where 1st in Pool A plays 1st in Pool B, 2nd v 2nd and so on, to determine final rankings, ensuring that ALL teams play 4 games throughout the day.
Each team will need an adult as a point of contact (coach/team manager) and ensure players are all wearing the same colour jersey/shirt/singlet. AFLQ will provide First Aid, umpires, match managers and relevant match equipment (footballs, wristbands etc.).
Clubs will accumulate points based on their teams’ finishing position across each of the 4 divisions. A winner will be determined at each of the 3 venues (Collingwood Park, Everton, Kawana and), meaning 3 separate clubs will receive a prize pack.
The winning clubs will receive a prize pack valued at over $3,000. The prize pack includes a $1,500 Sherrin voucher, a $1,000 HART Sport voucher and an Alpha sport pack (valued at $800).
