South East Queensland’s next generation of Australian rules football superstars ran onto an oval for the first time last weekend, as the Maccas South East Queensland Juniors competition returns for another year.
More than 16,500 children are already registered to play for the 1,090 teams in the competition that spans the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich and Northern Rivers.
Head of AFL Queensland Richie Lyons said it would be another season of unforgettable moments for everyone involved in the competition.
“We are so thrilled to see the return of all Maccas South East Queensland juniors participants this weekend across South East Queensland,” he said.
“In South East Queensland we have experienced significant participation growth for children between the age of 5-12 years old and we want to keep delivering a positive experience for all involved.
“I am pleased our Under 8 Girls competition will return for a second year, with thirteen additional teams participating 2025.
“This competition is crucial for our girls pathway as they can transition from NAB AFL Auskick and Superkick to community football, playing in a tackle-free, all girls competition.
“The best news is, there’s still time to register your child to play in 2026. Head of play.afl to find your nearest club and find your way to play.”
