SLIDING DOORS
Southport 3rd vs Bond University 1st @ Fankhauser Reserve, 3:30pm
Southport
IF the Sharks get this win…
THEN they have to be the premiership favourites…again. The battle of the sharks will be an intriguing one but with Southport playing on their home ground this week and coming off an excellent 55-point win over a top six side in the Panthers, there is no reason they can’t topple the ladder leaders.
Bond University
IF the Bullsharks have gone one win and one loss against top four teams this season…
THEN this is a good week to tell the competition that they are the team to beat. Both teams have a percentage of 300+ so it’s destined to be a shootout and with Grace Moodie, Kendra Blattman and Shannon Nolan all in good form, they will bring it to their rivals, the ‘other’ Sharks.
Wilston Grange 4th vs Coorparoo 2nd @ Hickey Park, 11:15am
Wilston Grange
IF the Gorillas are sitting fourth but their only two losses have come against the Bullsharks and the Sharks…
THEN watch out Coorparoo. This team is stacked with talent, including ex-AFLW player Zimmorlei Farquharson and they have played an exciting brand of footy this year, especially on offence and dominating the inside ball. But if they want to prove they are indeed a premiership threat, they will have to start by knocking off the Kings in the Hickey Park sunshine.
Coorparoo
IF Coorparoo’s only loss came in Round Six to Morningside in a 7-point shock upset…
THEN that doesn’t matter. This team is sitting pretty in second and is the only team that has knocked off both the Bullsharks and the Sharks convincingly. With Chelsea Chesterfield dominating up forward, alongside Jacinta Baldwick, Grace Roberts-White and Lucy Schneider all averaging more than 20 disposals this season, this team is stacked with talent - making it a challenge for sides to compete with.
Aspley 6th vs UQ 7th @Automall Aspley Oval, 2pm
Aspley
IF the Hornets can lock up this win…
THEN they still have a long way to go to lock up a finals berth. After this game the Hornets play second placed Coorparoo, first placed Bond, and then in Round 14 and 15 they play third placed Southport and fourth placed Wilston Grange. To say this game is a must win is an understatement, especially considering the hard run home that they have.
University of Queensland
IF last week they beat Moreton Bay by 71 points…
THEN why can’t they bring that momentum into this week and give themselves a shot at a top six spot. They actually play the exact same teams as Aspley do on their run home, so a win this week will be imperative for their top six chances.
Broadbeach 8th vs Morningside 5th @ Neptune Homes Oval, 4pm
Broadbeach
IF the Cats went toe-to-toe with the Kings last week and nearly made a comeback of the ages in the fourth quarter to then fall short by 10 points…
THEN the Panthers might be in a bit of trouble. This team has great talent and the Cats on their home deck are always a dangerous proposition. With some SUNS academy players returning this week, the Cats are a massive chance to cause a huge upset and start their charge for the top six in their inaugural year, just as their opponents did last season!
Morningside
IF the Panthers have had one of the arguably hardest schedules in the competition, playing top four teams five times in seven games and got two wins out of it…
THEN this team, although placed fifth, will be a very hard team to beat. They have beaten Southport and Coorparoo and suffered close losses to Wilston Grange and Bond University. They will be up for the challenge away against the Cats and they have a favourable run to end the season, meaning their push for a top four spot starts now.
Moreton Bay 10th vs Maroochydore 9th @ Red Rooster Park, 1pm
Moreton Bay
IF this year has been one of development for the Moreton Bay Lions…
THEN there is no better tonic for development than a win. Unfortunately, the Lions are the only team not to register a win this season, but this week coming up against the Roos - who just have the one win – is likely their best opportunity. The Lions do have young talent like Arden Quilliam and seasoned pros like Jess Davy but the whole team will need to step up to register their first win.
Maroochydore
IF last week they lost to Aspley by 74 points…
THEN the Roos will be looking to bounce back. Their last win and only win for the season came up against the Lions in Round Three, but the rematch could be unpredictable with both sides capable of winning this game. The Roos will be relying on Gabi Simpson and Anita Ovenden to propel them to the win, but it is very doable.
