Queensland Country Men's and Women's Squads Named

AFL Queensland has announced the men's and women's Queensland Country squads ahead of next month's representative clash against AFL Sydney/Canberra.

The squads showcase the depth of talent across regional Queensland, with players selected from every major region including Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Darling Downs.

The annual representative fixture provides an opportunity for the state's best country Australian rules footballers to test themselves against interstate opposition on a bigger stage.

Several players named in the squads have progressed through AFL Queensland's representative pathway, having previously featured in the North Queensland vs South Queensland showcase matches.

Among them is South Queensland star Scout Strong, who has built an impressive representative resume and was named Best on Ground for South Queensland in 2024.

Women's squad member Siobhan Carlton continues her representative journey after first representing North Queensland in 2022 before representing Queensland in both 2023 and 2024.

Experienced 300-plus game player from Yeppoon, Matt Wallin, has also been rewarded with selection. He is a three-time league medallist, represented North Queensland in 2023 and remains one of regional Queensland's most decorated players.

Emerging talent Ty Fitzgerald highlights the strength of the pathway system. Fitzgerald represented North Queensland at just 17 years of age and has since continued his development in South East Queensland at Palm Beach Currumbin and Southport.

The final Queensland Country teams to face AFL Sydney/Canberra will be announced in the coming weeks.
