More entertaining football took place around the state over the past weekend, with competitions drawing to a close for 2025 and finals football becoming imminent.

SFL Premier League - Glenorchy vs Kingborough

In the south, Glenorchy and Kingborough’s senior women’s teams clashed at KGV Oval. Kingborough were dominant early, kicking 2.3 to one Magpies behind in the first term.

In the second quarter, the Tigers kicked away to a 46-point lead at half-time after piling on 5.3 in the interval while keeping Glenorchy goalless.

Scoring was more scarce for the visitors in the second half, however they kicked the only major of the third term and restricted the Pies’ scoring throughout.

In the final quarter, Kingborough notched three majors to one and cruised to a comprehensive 11.9 (75) to 1.3 (9) victory over Glenorchy.

Molly Mitchell and Georgie Bailey were excellent for the Tigers, kicking four goals apiece in their side’s win over the Pies.

For Glenorchy, Brieanna Barwick (10 clearances, 12 tackles, 25 disposals) and Salome Holika (six clearances, seven one-percenters, 21 disposals) played with pride.

NTFA Premier League - South Launceston vs Deloraine

In the north of the state, South Launceston hosted Deloraine at Youngtown Memorial Oval.

The women’s match got underway first, and the home side made a solid start with 2.2 to the Roos’ 1.1 in the opening quarter.

Only one goal was registered between the two sides in the second term, and with that lone goal and a medley of points the Bulldogs extended their lead to 17 points at the half.

South Launceston remained in control in the third term, kicking four goals to two and furthering their lead to 30 points at the final change.
Ultimately, the Dogs stamped their authority with another three goals in the last quarter to secure a 10.10 (70) to 3.1 (19) win over Deloraine.

Liana Freestone (six tackles, nine inside-50s, 30 disposals) led the way for South Launceston in their victory over the Roos.

For Deloraine, Karina Baxter (six rebound inside-50s, six one-percenters, 27 disposals) stood tall on a tough day for the visitors.

The men’s game followed soon after, and despite an inaccurate start the Dogs had the better of Deloraine in the first quarter, notching 2.6 to 1.2.

In the second quarter, the home side kicked away to a lead of 39 points after kicking five goals to one in the term.

After half-time, South Launceston came out firing and piled on a mammoth 11 goals in the third term to all but secure victory.

The final quarter was a more even contest between the two sides, however the Dogs were the inevitable winners, cruising to a 21.21 (147) to 5.8 (38) victory over Deloraine.

Lachie Cocker (seven goals, eight marks, 23 disposals) and Logan Smith (three goals, seven marks, 27 disposals) were superb for the Dogs in their dismantling of Deloraine.

For the Roos, Kye Chilcott (one goal, 13 marks, 40 disposals) and Jayden Last (one goal, eight rebound inside-50s, 31 disposals) held their ground against South Launceston.

NWFL Premier League - Wynyard vs Devonport, Latrobe vs Burnie

And in the North West, Wynyard and Devonport’s senior women’s teams did battle at the former’s home ground.

Devonport kicked the only major of the opening term and led by as much at the first break. However, the Cats kicked two goals in the second quarter and took a slim lead into the half.

With a lead of seven points in hand, Wynyard maintained their minute control in the second half and after another two goals in the third term, they led by 17 points at three-quarter-time.

The Cats were ultimately too good in the end, outlasting Devonport in the final quarter to win 7.5 (47) to 1.6 (12).

Wynyard’s Olivia Smith (seven tackles, eight clearances, 27 disposals) and Piper Humphries (one goal, 26 disposals) were clinical for the Cats in their win over Devonport.

For the Magpies, Sarah Skinner was the shining light with a performance that included six tackles, nine clearances and 28 disposals.

In the senior men’s premier league, Latrobe and Burnie clashed on Latrobe’s home deck. The visitors were the better side early, kicking 2.4 to a goal in the first quarter.

Latrobe were wasteful in the second term, however they kept the Dockers goalless while reducing the margin to a point at half-time.

The third term was a fruitful one for scoring, with seven majors notched between both sides. With four of them, the Demons pinched the lead and led by eight points at the last interval.

The final quarter was a seesawing, gritty affair, however at the final siren Latrobe ultimately prevailed over Burnie, winning 7.13 (55) to 7.10 (52).

Mitchell Perry (one goal, nine clearances, 26 disposals) and Shaun Mccrossen (one goal, 25 disposals) were vital for the Demons in their victory over Burnie.

For the Dockers, Josh Murray (one goal, six marks, 32 disposals) and Logan Elphinstone (eight one-percenters, 55 hit-outs, 27 disposals) were defiant in defeat.
