The past weekend dished up some cracking results around the state, with the Premier Leagues resuming action following the state academy games against Queensland.

SFL Premier League - Lauderdale vs Kingborough

In the south, Lauderdale and Kingborough’s senior men’s and women’s teams clashed at the former’s home ground.

The men’s match took place first, and the visitors made early inroads kicking four goals to one in the opening quarter.

In the face of a 15-point deficit, Lauderdale responded with six goals to three in the second term to lead by four points at half-time.

Both sides notched one major apiece in the third quarter, and the Bombers maintained a slender lead at the final break.

Despite the Tigers’ spirited efforts, Lauderdale were too good in the end, winning 16.10 (106) to 8.5 (53) after a superb eight-goal fourth quarter.

Sam Siggins (seven goals, 15 disposals) and Josh McGuinness (six rebound inside-50s, 24 marks, 45 disposals) stood tall for the Bombers in their victory over Kingborough.

For the Tigers, Kieran Lovell (one goal, eight clearances, 38 disposals) and Pat Harnwell (one goal, seven inside-50s, 31 disposals) battled hard in yellow and black.

The women’s game took place soon after, and Kingborough put the Bombers to the sword early with six goals to none in the first quarter.

From then on it was all Kingborough, who registered a further 23 goals for the game and ran out 29.12 (186) to 0.1 (1) at the final siren.

Kingborough’s Georgie Bailey and Holly Ryan registered 15 of the Tigers’ 29 majors, while Perri King and Lindsay King also contributed four goals apiece.

For the Bombers, Jessica Wuetschner (six marks, 17 disposals) held her own despite a big defeat for the home side.

NTFA Premier League - Longford vs Scottsdale

In the north, Longford and Scottsdale’s men’s and women’s teams battled on Longford’s home deck.

The women’s match was first, and the visiting Magpies made an emphatic start with six unanswered goals in the first term.

The rest of the match continued in a similar fashion, with Scottsdale in complete control and Longford unable to register a score.

At the final siren, the Magpies were victorious 19.14 (128) to 0.0 (0).

The men’s game then took place, and after an entertaining opening quarter the hosts led by a goal at the first break.

Longford then kicked away in the second quarter, notching 5.6 to one goal and extending their lead to 36 points at the half.

The third term was a superb display from the home side, who piled on eight goals in the quarter to lead by 87 at the final change.

Ultimately it was a comprehensive win for the home side, storming home with ten goals in the last to 26.20 (176) to 4.4 (28).

NWFL Premier League - Wynyard vs Burnie

And in the North West, Wynyard and Burnie’s senior men’s and women’s teams faced off at the former’s home ground.

The women’s game took place earlier in the morning, and the home side made a solid start with an unopposed 3.3 in the first quarter.

The Cats then added another six goals to their tally in the second quarter, taking their lead out to 57 points as Burnie remained scoreless.

In the third term, Wynyard registered four further goals and continued to restrict the Dockers’ scoring.

And in the final quarter, the hosts finished strongly with 5.5 to win 18.8 (116) to 0.0 (0).

Wynyard’s Amy Bissett (four goals, six one-percenters, 21 disposals) and Olivia Smith (one goal, nine inside-50s, 36 disposals) were superb for the Cats

Meanwhile, Brittney French (10 rebound inside-50s, 14 disposals) and Kirby Brakey (six rebound inside-50s, seven tackles, 13 disposals) were brave in defeat for Burnie.

The men’s game kicked off later in the afternoon, and Wynyard held a lead of 10 points at quarter-time after kicking 5.2 to Burnie’s 3.4 in the first quarter.

Burnie were able to reduce the Cats’ lead to just three points at half-time after kicking three of the five goals registered in the second quarter.

A wayward third term from Wynyard of 2.8 saw them unable to pull away from the Dockers, who kept within nine points of the home side at three-quarter-time.

In a thrilling final quarter, Burnie snuck ahead of Wynyard in the dying stages to win 12.13 (85) to 11.13 (79), with the Dockers’ Jaylan Bryan kicking the winner with mere seconds left.
