The past weekend served up some entertaining contests around the state, with all premier leagues resuming following last weekend’s representative matches.
SFL Premier League - North Hobart vs Lauderdale
In the south, North Hobart and Lauderdale’s senior men’s and women’s teams faced off against one another respectively at North Hobart Oval.
The women’s game took place first and the home side made a fast start, kicking an unopposed 4.4 in the opening quarter.
North Hobart piled on another five goals in the second term, which saw them lead by 58 points as the Bombers remained without a score.
After half-time the Demons continued to dominate, adding another 3.5 to their tally in the third term while still completely restricting Lauderdale’s scoring.
In the final quarter, the hosts piled on six goals and cruised to a superb 18.11 (119) to 0.1 (1) victory.
Angelica Clark (one goal, 15 clearances, 38 disposals) and Emily Mifsud (six goals, six marks, 20 disposals) were excellent for the Demons in a big win.
Meanwhile, Lauderdale’s Evie Ward (eight clearances, 11 tackles, 32 disposals) and Lara Sims (eight rebound inside-50s, 11 one-percenters, 20 disposals) held firm in defeat.
The men’s game then followed, with the visitors making a solid but inaccurate start with 3.6 to North Hobart’s 1.1 in the first term.
Lauderdale kicked away in the second quarter, notching four goals to two and taking their lead out to 31 points at half-time.
In the third term, the Bombers piled on the pain with a dozen majors to one, which furthered their lead to 97 at three-quarter-time.
With victory all but secured, Lauderdale added on another five goals in the fourth quarter to win 24.15 (159) to 6.8 (44).
Fletcher Hooker (four goals, 13 clearances, 28 disposals) and Sam Siggins (eight goals, seven marks, 19 disposals) were among Lauderdale’s best in their win over the Demons.
For North Hobart, Ryan Martin (11 rebound inside-50s, 16 one-percenters, 21 disposals) and Tom Ferguson (eight marks, eight rebound inside-50s, 21 disposals) played with pride.

NTFA Premier League - Launceston vs North Launceston
In the NTFA, Launceston and North Launceston’s senior men’s and women’s teams skirmished at WIndsor Park.
The women’s match took place first, with Launceston kicking five goals to none in the first quarter.
The Blues remained in control in the second term, putting another 3.3 on the board while continuing to keep North Launceston scoreless.
In the third term, Launceston kept on and notched another 5.4 for the interval as the Bombers reamined without a single score.
Ultimately, it was an emphatic 17.10 (112) to 0.0 (0) victory for the home side.
Launceston’s Jorja Haberle (five goals, 12 tackles, 32 disposals) and Georgia Hill (four goals, 15 disposals) were in fine form for the Blues in their win over North Launceston.
For North Launceston, Kia Rogers (six rebound inside-50s, six one-percenters, 22 disposals) and Leila-Jayne Atkins (five clearances, eight tackles, 20 disposals) stood tall in defeat.
The men’s game began soon after, with North Launceston registering 5.2 to Launceston’s 2.1 in the first term.
Both sides kicked 2.4 in the second quarter, meaning the Bombers maintained their quarter-time lead of 19 points at the main break.
In the third term, both Launceston and North Launceston notched two majors apiece, however the latter marginally extended their lead to 21 at the final change.
Both teams were wayward in front of goals in the final quarter, however North Launceston held on to win 9.16 (70) to 7.13 (55) and consolidate top spot on the NTFA ladder.
North Launceston’s Declen Chugg (two goals, seven tackles, 20 disposals) and Alex Lee (six clearances, 51 hit-outs, 18 disposals) were vital contributors in red and black.
For Launceston, Jake Hinds (six marks, seven clearances, 30 disposals) and Jacob Boyd (five marks, 10 rebound inside-50s, 24 disposals) held their ground against the Bombers.

NWFL Premier League - Wynyard vs Penguin
And in the North West, Wynyard and Penguin’s senior men’s and women’s sides did battle on the former’s home deck.
The women’s match was first on the cards and it looked to be a blockbuster as the two opponents were first and second on the ladder.
The visiting Penguin made early inroads, kicking an unopposed 2.3 in the first term.
Both the Cats and Penguin notched 2.1 in the second quarter, meaning the latter were on the better end of a 15-point buffer at half-time.
Wynyard cut back the margin to 10 points after kicking the only major of the third term.
However, Penguin finished with three goals in the last to win 7.10 (52) to 3.3 (21) and hand Wynyard their first loss of the season.
The men’s game then took place, and the home side were strong early with 5.5 to Penguin’s 3.1 in the opening quarter.
Both teams managed just one goal apiece in the second quarter, however the hosts ever so slightly extended their lead to 18 points at the half.
In a blistering third term, Wynyard kicked five goals to one to take their lead out to 41 points at three-quarter-time.
With a notable lead in hand, the Cats kicked four goals to one in the final term and were ultimately victorious 15.14 (104) to 6.14 (50).
