Nominations are now open for the 2025 AFL Victoria Best Community Football Facilities Project Award, closing at 6pm AEDT on 17 October 2025.
The AFL Victoria Best Community Football Facilities Project Award is announced annually to recognise best practice in community football facility development across the state, along with the people, clubs and other stakeholders driving the best projects in Victoria.

This year, to capture and recognise the very best facilities projects fully completed and utilised in 2025, AFL Victoria is opening the nomination process up to local councils, AFL Victoria affiliated leagues and educational institutions.
The winner of the AFL Victoria Best Community Football Facilities Project Award will be announced at the end of each calendar year and put forward as the Victorian nomination for the national AFL Ken Gannon Community Football Facilities Award.
The award aims to promote and celebrate the provision of well positioned, welcoming, accessible, fit for purpose football facilities that support our growing game’s strategic priorities.
To be eligible, the project must be related to community level football and the project completed and venue used for football in the 2025 year.

ABOUT THE AWARDS
These awards are funded by the AFL’s Australian Football Facilities Fund (AFFF) which aims to support the provision of well positioned, welcoming, accessible, fit for purpose football facilities that support our growing game’s strategic priorities.
They will also recognise the incredible service to Australian Football of over four decades by Ken Gannon, In a decorated career, Ken spent much of his last decade in the game developing the AFL's interest and partnerships in this space, leveraging $500 million of outcomes for more than 800 community football facility projects.
AFL’s Australian Football Facilities Fund (AFFF) aim: Support the provision of well positioned, welcoming, fit for purpose football facilities that support our growing game’s strategic priorities.
AFL AFFF OBJECTIVES:
1. Maximise the carrying capacity of existing venues and the quality / functionality of their supporting infrastructure.
2. Develop new and increased carrying capacity through construction of new ovals, especially in growing communities.
3. Provide inclusive and accessible facilities that cater for the diversity of participants, particularly female participants, that wish to participate in our game.
4. Develop venues to support the game’s complete talent pathway, umpiring, staff, landmark heritage sites and people working and volunteering within the game.
5. Enable planning and project partnerships to form with a range of government and non-government bodies to result in an improved quantity, quality and welcoming venue network for Australian football.
Case studies of all state and national winning projects will be developed with the overall winning project also being developed further in to a short video to showcase the best in community football facility development.
