The 2026 AFL Victoria Metro Junior Development Series is set to commence this week on Wednesday 27 May, with the annual junior interleague competition being talent pathway development program for under 14s and under 15s boys and girls.

More than 1600 players from 11 different local football leagues across Victoria will participate in the program, which will run over three days:

Wednesday 27 May (evening matches starting at either 5.15pm or 7.15pm)
Saturday 6 June (day matches starting at either 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm or 2pm)
Monday 8 June (day matches starting at either 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm or 2pm)

The Metro Junior Development Series is a talent showcase of some of the best U14 and U15 boys and girls footballers from across metropolitan Victoria.

The Series provides players whose performance at community level has warranted representative selection, with the Series part of the pathway to U16 and U18 AFL talent programs such as the Talent League.

The 2026 Series will include representative teams from 11 leagues across metropolitan Melbourne:
Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL)
Essendon District Football League (EDFL)
Frankston & District Junior Football League (FDJFL)
Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League (MPJFL)
Northern Football Netball League (NFNL)
Outer East Football Netball (OEFN)
Riddell District Football Netball League (RDFNL)
South East Juniors (SEJ)
South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL)
Western Football Netball League (WFNL)
Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL)

The competition expanded last year with the addition of three more leagues (Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League, Outer East Football Netball League and South East Juniors), increasing the total number of matches to 93 across three match days in the following eight age groups and divisions:

  • U15 Boys Division 1 and 2
  • U15 Girls Division 1 and 2
  • U14 Boys Division 1 and 2
  • U14 Girls Division 1 and 2

Approximately 25 different venues will host matches across the series, including RSEA Park in Moorabbin, Windy Hill in Essendon and Arden Street Oval in North Melbourne.
