The Indigenous All Stars proved they are a force to be reckoned with, and some of the best players in the league, defeating Fremantle by 43 points on Saturday night at Optus Stadium in front of nearly 38,000 passionate fans.
AFL Victoria congratulates proud Yorta Yorta men Jy Simpkin, Jade Gresham and Jarman Impey, as well as proud Noonuccal man Karl Amon on their performances, with all four beginning their footy careers in Victoria as juniors.
Simpkin, who grew up playing for Mooroopna FNC, was awarded the Polly Farmer Medal for a best on ground performance that included a game-high 30 disposals, and 10 clearances.
It was also an emotional one for the North Melbourne skipper, who dedicated his third quarter goal to his Pop, who passed away late last year.
"I can't remember enjoying football that much… it was super exciting, super fun. Even sitting on the benches, watching back, watching the boys run, carry, move the footy was awesome," Simpkin said.
Jade Gresham, the first South Morang FNC product to be drafted to the AFL, produced 13 disposals, including six kicks and five marks, despite only playing in the second half.
Jarman Impey (Shepparton Swans / Shepparton FNC), who was part of the All Stars leadership team, had 17 disposals including 12 kicks and 6 marks.
Karl Amon, who played junior football at the Hampton Rovers, produced a strong performance with 19 disposals, including 10 kicks and 6 marks.
