In a landmark deal for the AFL Sapphire Coast community, ActewAGL has signed a major partnership for the 2026 season. The partnership, which provides a major financial boost to the league, will see ActewAGL as the exclusive naming rights partner for all six Junior competitions and its Women’s program.
The proudly local electricity and gas retailer is a key energy provider across the south-eastern part of the NSW, including the South Coast. Whilst the partnership provides a significant financial boost to the AFL Sapphire Coast competition, improving competition delivery and participant experience, the partnership provides ActewAGL with the platform to enhance their brand in the region, giving locals the opportunity to support a community-minded business for their gas and electricity needs.
As part of the agreement, AFL Sapphire Coast will celebrate an ActewAGL Team of the Week, acknowledging a team each round which plays the game in line with the AFL’s values of Play Fair, Play to Win, Play with Passion, and Play as One Team.
Furthermore, two clubs will win a set of ActewAGL goalpost pads, for use at their home matches with a competition running for clubs to show how they bring energy to their club communities.
To enter the competition, clubs can post on their social media channels a short (max 60 seconds) video of their teams bringing the energy. This can be in the form of a training montage, interview with players, or focus on a particular team. All videos that are published on club socials before Wednesday April 15, and tag both AFL Sapphire Coast and ActewAGL will be considered. Winners will be announced following Round 1 of the competition.
In addition to the exclusive naming partnership, ActewAGL will become the Representative Team sponsor, with their logo appearing exclusively on all on-field apparel, and non-exclusively on all off-field team apparel.
Casey White, Community Football and Competition Manager for AFL Sapphire Coast spoke glowingly of the partnership and the potential it will bring to the Sapphire Coast competition.
“Our clubs have done an incredible job over the recent seasons, growing participation, and building a competition that they should be proud of” White said. “To have the support of a brand like ActewAGL, we gain greater capacity to give back to the community, add value to our major events, and enhance how we deliver the competition.”
“This support will allow us to return to a fully streamed Grand Final Day, enhance the representative program locally, and alleviate the financial pressure that is placed on our clubs in running the competition.”
“We are grateful to have their support and thank Simon Joyce and the team at ActewAGL for bringing this partnership to life.”
Rohan Richardson, Acting General Manager Retail for ActewAGL was pleased to see their support of grassroots AFL expand into the Sapphire Coast, extending beyond the reach of their current agreement with AFL Canberra.
“We have been supporting the Junior AFL competition across the ACT for just over 25 years, and we are pleased to expand this support to the Sapphire Coast league,” Mr Richardson said. “We aim to support events and organisations that enrich their local community and we’re proud to back the continued growth of Junior and Women’s AFL on the Sapphire Coast.”
