AFL Queensland is excited to announce the appointment of David Lake and Tammie Lauritsen as Assistant Coaches for the upcoming 2024 Toyota AFL Open. The pair will join Head Coach Michael Doobie-Bridges to lead the Queensland wheelchair team at the national titles.

Senior Assistant Coach – David Lake
David Lake, a distinguished figure in Australian rules football, brings a wealth of experience to the coaching staff, having served as a premiership coach with Mt Gravatt (2007) and Morningside (2014) in the QAFL. He is also a championship-winning coach for Papua New Guinea in the AFL International Cup (2014 and 2017). Lake has previously held positions as Head Coach of the Gold Coast SUNS AFL Women's team and Assistant Coach at the Brisbane Lions AFL Women's team, along with numerous coaching roles for Queensland State representative teams.

Assistant Coach – Tammie Lauritsen
Tammie Lauritsen, fresh from serving as the 2024 Premiership Assistant Coach with Morningside in the QAFL competition, will also lend her expertise to the team. Lauritsen has experience coaching Queensland state teams and intra-state teams, as well as being a Development Coach with the Gold Coast SUNS AFL Women's team.

The 2024 Toyota AFL Open will take place for the first time at the South Pine Sports Complex in the Moreton Bay region from 21-26 November. This year’s event will feature over 200 players representing their states and territories, competing for national titles in both the 2024 Toyota AFL Open – Wheelchair and the 2024 Toyota AFL Open – Inclusion divisions.

Over 90 matches are scheduled to run concurrently during the five-day event, with the inclusion division utilising the grassed oval space and the wheelchair AFL games taking place on indoor courts.

A final team from the Queensland squad will be announced in the coming weeks.
