Across Darling Downs, Wide Bay, Capricornia, Mackay and Townsville, the 2026 finals series produced everything from extra-time classics and breakthrough premierships to the continuation of some of regional football's most successful dynasties.
From clubs ending premiership droughts to others extending remarkable runs of success, the regional Grand Finals provided a fitting conclusion to another memorable season across Queensland.
Uni Cougars break premiership drought in Darling Downs
The AFL Darling Downs Allied Cup Senior Men's Grand Final delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the finals series, with the Uni Cougars prevailing by a single goal in extra time to secure their first senior men's premiership since 2018.
In the Toowoomba Toyota Cup Senior Women's competition, the Toowoomba Tigers continued their dominance, claiming their fourth consecutive premiership and further cementing their status as one of the region's powerhouse clubs.
Bombers continue Wide Bay dominance
The Hervey Bay Bombers produced another remarkable Grand Final day performance in AFL Wide Bay, claiming six of the seven premierships contested. Their Senior Men's side also added another chapter to an extraordinary era, securing a sixth straight premiership.
In a testament to the strength of the competition, all five AFL Wide Bay clubs were represented on Grand Final day, with each club fielding at least one team across the various grades.
Historic upsets and extra-time drama in Capricornia
B.I.T.S ended Yeppoon's incredible run of 11 consecutive Triple M AFL Capricornia Senior Men's premierships, capturing its first senior men's flag since 2013. Adding to the occasion, former AFL star Dane Swan kicked the goal that sealed the historic victory.
The Triple M AFL Capricornia Senior Women's Grand Final was equally dramatic, with the Rockhampton Panthers overcoming reigning premiers Brothers Kangaroos in extra time. A goal in the final minute of extra time secured the premiership and capped one of the most thrilling finishes of the season.
Hawks return to the summit in Mackay
The Mackay City Hawks celebrated a long-awaited return to the top, claiming their first Senior Men's Allied Cup premiership since 2016.
The premiership marks a significant achievement for the club and highlights the continued growth and competitiveness of AFL Mackay.
Bulldogs dynasty continues in Townsville
The Thuringowa Bulldogs further strengthened their standing as the benchmark club in AFL Townsville, securing a fifth consecutive Townsville RMS Senior Men's premiership.
Meanwhile, the University Hawks celebrated their first Townsville KX Pilates Senior Women's premiership since 2016, capping a successful season with victory on football's biggest stage.
AFL Cairns will host their senior men’s and women’s grand finals this weekend.
