This Sunday (19 October), First Nations peoples will have the opportunity to participate in a free and dedicated AFL coaching course.

The First Nations AFL Coaching Course will see participants become a registered and accredited AFL coach, with the program delivered by AFL NSW/ACT and in partnership with the Sydney Swans and Coaching Unlimited.

Coaching Unlimited is a national coach education program providing sport-specific coaching accreditation to support First Nations Peoples become qualified sport coaches. The program is delivered in collaboration between First Nations coaches, sports organisations and researchers from Western Sydney University and the University of New South Wales.

Sydney Swans Manager – First Nations Strategy and Player Development Jarred Hodges said the course will equip participants with the latest best coaching practices via an interactive learning opportunity.

“Quality coaching is vital in providing the best possible environment for each player and therefore increasing the overall player experience,” Hodges said.

“This course will not only provide our coaches with current best practices from industry experts, but it will also provide a space for two-way learning with our coaches demonstrating and explaining the cultural nuances when working in and with Community.”

Held at Sydney Swans HQ in Moore Park, First Nations Peoples aged 16 years and over will have the opportunity to participate in the free coaching course. Travel assistance is available for regional applicants.
