Esteemed coach Steve Daniel returns to lead the Queensland Country men’s team in their inaugural clash against AFL Sydney/Canberra at Southport on July 11.
Daniel returns to the maroon after leading the Queensland men’s side in their unforgettable victory over Tasmania at Latrobe in July last year.
Daniel is no stranger to Queensland Country, having coached the side on three previous occasions.
The former Southport VFL coach said he was excited to take the reins again in 2026.
“I’m looking forward to being involved in the Queensland Country program again,” he said.
“Working with the best country footballers and coaches is always exciting.”
Recruitment for the role of Head Coach for the Queensland Country Women’s team has started.
AFL Queensland’s Participation and Operations Manager Kieran Daley said the position is perfect for a coach looking to test themselves at the next level.
“We encourage experienced coaches from all over Queensland to consider putting themselves forward for this role,” he said.
“Coaches knowledgeable of the regional Queensland Australian rules football landscape will be highly regarded.
“There are also a number of assistant coaching roles across both the men’s and women’s teams now open for applications.”
The two Queensland Country representative matches on Saturday July 11 at Southport will feature the best male and female players from regional Queensland senior competitions.
This includes players competing in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Darling Downs. A limited number of players who now participate in South East Queensland competitions but started their Australian rules football journey in regional Queensland, will be available for selection.
