AFL Queensland is excited to launch a new initiative aimed at encouraging more women and girls to take up coaching roles within junior and youth football teams.

Starting this season, junior and youth clubs will be permitted to appoint an additional assistant coach, provided the coach is a female.

This groundbreaking change will offer clubs the opportunity to increase the number of women and girls in coaching roles while providing them the chance to learn from skilled mentors at their own club.

Under the current rules, only the following officials are allowed in the coaches' box during a youth competition match:

Coach x 1
Assistant Coach x 1
Team Manager x 1
Runner x 1

With the introduction of this new initiative, clubs can now appoint an additional female assistant coach, provided the coach is accredited and listed on the team sheet.

This initiative is a fantastic opportunity for women and girls to gain valuable experience, learn coaching techniques, and play an integral part in the development of youth football. It also allows for greater mentorship and sharing of knowledge between talented coaches and players.
