The Bathurst Giants are set to light up their home ground at George Park with the installation of four brand-new light towers, thanks to funding from the AFL and NSW Government.
With a total investment of over $300k, the new lighting infrastructure will illuminate the field to an average of 100 LUX, providing a high-quality environment for training and match preparation. Importantly, the installation of lights has created an additional seven hours of weekly usage, allowing for greater flexibility and expansion of club activities.
The President of the Bathurst GIANTS Football Club, Kathy Sloan, expressed what this upgrade means for the football club.
“The new lights are a game changer for the Bathurst Giants. It means that we can train on our home ground for the first time in our history, giving us a greater sense of connection. It provides greater flexibility in training days and times, effectively doubling the capacity for AFL in Bathurst,” she said.
“It also increases convenience and safety for our players with access to change rooms on training nights, not having to change in cars or walk in the dark to toilets.”
Head of AFL NSW/ACT, Andrew Varasdi, shared his support for regional NSW Australian Football clubs.
‘’We're committed to supporting regional footy communities by improving club facilities and helping grow the game through the Australian Football Facilities Fund.’’
‘’Investments like these give clubs the chance to expand and get more people involved, with better flexibility for training and matches. The new lights create additional hours of play, empowering the local community to connect, and thrive.’’
